Sunday night Carter Family gospel meeting

November 8, 2009

For the past few weeks I have been sinking my toes deep into the soil of Americana, walking barefoot through the dustbowl with the music of the Carter Family.  It is really wonderful stuff.  Here is one of my favourites thus far — but be forewarned:  this song has been lodged in my head like a bullet all week, and the same may very well happen to you.

Nice! Loads of Carter family on spotify.com. Too bad CRTC doesn’t allow such musicplayer sites in Canada.

I have spent so much time and money building my music library that I cannot resist regarding Spotify and its ilk with disgust and fear.

  3. Somehow I managed to miss this post. This is great–I love the Carter Family but mostly know their “greatest hits”–“Wildwood Flower,” “Will the Circle…”, et.al.

I have been listening to this large collection of Carter Family recordings, and I am learning that there is much (much!) more to them than those hits, fine as they are. They are really worth exploring — but the set doesn’t come cheaply.
