From time to time I am asked why, following my doctoral work, I decided not to pursue an academic career in elementary particle physics. Part of the reason is that I didn’t want to end up like this fellow:

Very funny, even if you’ve never been anywhere near advanced physics. It’s pretty applicable to other academic areas, e.g. literature.

Yes, nothing very specific to physics here, and indeed things are even more dire in the humanities, from what I hear. It was a nice treat to find it specifically about physics.
My supervisor used to say that someone with a PhD in physics could do anything, and I guess “anything” includes adding fake subtitles to a movie clip. My supervisor was right about most things.
