For the next little while we’re on summer vacation. While this city continues to swelter in the stink and chaos, we’ll be frolicking under a wide prairie sky with wheat-stalks behind our ears. Here’s a song by Corb Lund and the Hurtin’ Albertans. Our family reunion won’t be exactly like this one — we’ll probably have few beers, and fewer Mormons — but it’s still a pretty fun song.

It always sort of shocks me how, even in the face of a widely-publicized strike and the obvious incapacity of an overflowing public trashcan, people will just keep tossing their trash in it, on it, and, eventually, near it. The picture in the linked article says it all; it’s hard to think that Toronto doesn’t deserve what she’s getting, frankly, with citizens like that.
But then, it’s the same everywhere.

How long are you gone? Munchie may go into “Iya” withdrawal…

Oops! Forgot to put my name down for that last comment.
I also want to say that the photo of the mounds of trash is a bit misleading. I can tell from the background that it was taken in Chinatown, which is the one area of the city that has that much trash even when the garbagemen aren’t on strike.

That photo is a prophecy.
