Vulgar experiment results

January 7, 2008

One month ago I posted a joking little paragraph intended to trigger on certain keywords in Internet searches. The experiment was to see whether I could attract hits by using certain words, and, if so, which words would be most effective. I used a few different lures: the US presidential campaign, the Christmas season, the Grammy awards (for which nominations had recently been announced), and apparent licentiousness.

The experiment was a success, in the sense that that post attracted far more hits during the past month than any other. If we normalize the number of hits it received to 10, then the next most popular post during the past month received just 6. As you might expect, the most popular lure was the last listed. I am happy to have been an irritant to those surfers.
